Gothic arches challenge entry

The style for this weeks gothic arches challenge http://gothicarches.blogspot.com/ is 'shabby chic', and have I had LOADS of fun with this. Led Zeppelin BLASTIN it out in the background, raining outside, heating on inside, housework done, slobby gear on............creating..............pure heaven!!!!!!!

Here's what I came up with. Base for the arch was cut free hand out of corrugated cardboard. It measures roughly 9" x 6" (KATE) lol. I forgot to put a ruler next to it!!!!! I coated the card with gesso, blobbed on a few patches of Ranger crakle paint, ripped a strip of text, wet it, scrunched it and aged it a bit with old paper distress ink and stuck it to the left of the arch with plenty of PVA, ensuring it went into the crevices of the corrugated card.

The opening 'arched door' stamp is by (no prizes for guessing) Crafty Individuals, CI-249. I stamped it twice and cut one in half to extend the arch a bit more, then used foam pads to raise the top one. The photo above shows it in more detail, with the doors closed.

The heart was made with clay, painted and distressed slightly, then I antiqued one of my bargain 10p angels and stuck it onto the heart. Flat back pearls were stuck around the edge of the inside arch to add a bit more interest.

Inside the open doors I stamped (sorry, but I just LOVE EM) CI-020, 'Hope' text plate onto tissue, cut out the bits I needed and stuck them inside the doors. These stamps are just so versatile when used like this, you get so many words out of them. Text at the top was from an old book.

Finally, the chipboard 'border' was coloured then overstamped with CI-116 'crackle', another of my all time favourites. Hope, as before from the word plate onto tissue, then onto an offcut of handmade paper I made from sheets of newspaper, (messy but worth it)! Crackle paint around the edge, and an antiqued heart charm to finish it off. Phew, that's the easy bit, got to try to link to the challenge now...............................

Wow, this is stunning, Sue! So much work gone into it, and well worth it. Know what you mean about the CI stamps being so versatile. I love 'em too. Just bought some of their new ones, and the new miniatures book, which is absolutely gorgeous.

Sue, any one would think I was obsessed with inches, I can not think why. However I do believe that it was originally Polly who said your items looks so Tiny on the blog, but are actually huge in comparison. But thanks for the sizes and mention.

This is stunning and as always totally unique. I can see you were Totally in the zone.........

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE HONOURABLE MENTION - sorry had to shout it.............as you deserved it - the submission was absolutely FAB........

hugs Kate x

Wow you have been busy blagging bargains and creating something beautiful from them.... you amaze me with your talents Sue.
I can never find bargains like that but I must admit I did grab a couple yesterday. I got the most gorgeous duvet cover and pillowcases, a sweet fat milk jug, and some other goodies for less than a tenner......I love thrifting!
Have a fab weekend, I plan to.
